A Quiet Inquisition
dir. Holen Sabrina Kahn, Alessandra Zeka
65 min, 2014, Nicaragua, USA
The price of the pragmatic alliance between Nicaragua’s Sandinistas and its episcopate that has helped keep Daniel Ortega in power is the country’s ruthless anti-abortion law. There are no exceptions – not for pregnancies resulting from rape or in situations where an abortion could save the mother’s life. Dr. Carla Cerrato, once a supporter of the socialist revolution, cannot come to terms with today’s level of cynicism – above all, with the senseless death of the victims of this inhumane law. Like other doctors, she has to make difficult decisions between what is medically required and what is prohibited by law. Every day, she sees her colleagues at the clinic who, out of fear, let women who are begging to be saved die, or risk trials by performing procedures that fulfill the Hippocratic Oath.
Admission free of charge. Number of seats limited. Free tickets can be collected at the cinema box office.
