A Mother Brings Her Son To Be Shot

A Mother Brings Her Son To Be Shot

Theoretically, the conflict in Northern Ireland ended 20 years ago with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. In practice, there are places where it continues to this day. In Derry, there are still areas where the British authorities are not allowed. The role of the police there is performed by republican gangs from one faction of the IRA, which survives on extortion and drug trafficking. With no prospects for the future, young people long for the good old days when pervasive violence at least had an ideological justification. And although stubborn "traitors" or rival dealers are deterred with a shot to the knee, there are people struggling to restore normalcy in Derry.
