About the film “Kumotry”
This is a story of friendship between women living in a fading Polish village in the Romanian Carpathians. Hanka and Bronka have already buried their husbands, and their children have moved abroad in search of better opportunities. Independent and self-reliant, the protagonists impress with their resilience and warmth, even as their world slowly disappears.
What remains are memories of times that will never return — and the shared effort of facing everyday challenges together. This nostalgic portrait of a vanishing world sparkles with understated humor and captivates with stunning cinematography that captures the enchanting beauty of the Carpathian foothills.
The director has created a moving film about memory, friendship, and passing time. The portrait of two women who are everything to each other invites viewers to rethink their priorities and see reality from a different, less obvious perspective.
